F-f-f-friday

Here are 6 songs for Friday. Two SMD tracks because one track's title is what I'm currently facing, the latter being my current favorite. The Timbaland track is up because one can't own enough of The Bloody Beetroots' remixes. Black Sheep- self explanitory, Girl Talk's Friday Night because it's got a sample of The Choice is Yours in it.. Prince & the Revolution- also self explanitory.

MP3: Sleep Deprivation - SMD (YSI)
MP3: Piggy In The Middle (Punks Jump Up Mix) - SMD (YSI)
MP3: Throw It On Me (The Bloody Beetroots Remix) - TImbaland (YSI)
MP3: The Choice Is Yours - Black Sheep (YSI)
MP3: Friday Night - Girl Talk (YSI)
MP3: Kiss - Prince & the Revolution (YSI)

The reason why I haven't been posting that much lately is simple really. I've been overwhelmed by how insanely good Bad Seeds Vol 1 & 2 are. They're so good that the two words so and good are all I can come up with as a concrete description. They're two essential peices that you, as a Nick Cave fan, should own, if you you do in fact call yourself a Nick Cave fan. I would thank me so much if I were you for putting the original Long Time Man up. Click here to buy and for tracklisting.

MP3: Katie Cruel - Karen Dalton (YSI) (pictured above with Dylan)
MP3: Cat Man - Gene Vincent & The Blue Caps (YSI)
MP3: Long Time Man - Tim Rose (YSI)
MP3: Did You Hear About Jerry? - Harry Belafonte (YSI)

Jake and I did end up breaking into that ski lodge (more pics are here):

The rental room was only slightly creepy...

Before we went upstate to investigate the lodge however, we were at this party:

Which is also tonight:

Here's that post that I promised.

About The Vaselines: a somewhat obscure, somewhat desolate late 80's/early 90's band from Scottland. You might know the song Molly's Lipscovered by Nirvana, also covered by a small band from the UK called The Paddingtons. They only released one whole album and two short EPs throughout their career. Just enough to make a decent compilation..

That being The Way of the Vaselines: A Complete History:
MP3: Teenage Superstars - The Vaselines (YSI)
MP3: No Hope - The Vaselines (YSI)
MP3: Molly's Lips - The Vaselines (YSI)

The Paddingtons' cover of Molly's Lips from their 2005 single Panick Attack:
MP3: Molly's Lips - The Paddingtons (YSI)

Then other stuff I've been randomly listening to a lot lately would include:
Zoot Woman's 2003 S/T album. Especially:
MP3: Taken It All - Zoot Woman (YSI)

Also 60's band The Troggs' Hit Single Anthology which includes Wild Thing, which I've heard a million times before, and then a whole bunch of other songs that I've never heard before pre-ownership of the album. My favorites:
MP3: Wild Thing - The Troggs (YSI)
MP3: Hi Hi Hazel - The Troggs (YSI)
MP3: I Want You - The Troggs (YSI)

I've been listening to Nick Drake a whole lot, something I go through casual periods of. The Ponys a whole lot, specificaly their 2005 Another Wound EP.. AND ESPECIALLY SOULWAX'S MOST OF THE REMIXES, which officially comes out October 22nd.. something you must own eventually. It's made up of.. most of the remixes that they've done. Click for the tracklisting, and to pre-order.

MP3: Kimbie - Nick Drake (YSI)
MP3: Things Behind The Sun - Nick Drake (YSI)
MP3: How Does it Taste - The Ponys (YSI)
MP3: Looking Out A Mirror - The Ponys (YSI)
MP3: Robot Rock (Soulwax Remix) - Daft Punk (YSI)
MP3: Six Days (Soulwax Remix) - DJ Shadow (YSI)
MP3: I Sit On Acid (Soulwax Remix) - The Lords Of Acid (YSI)
MP3: Muscle Museum (Soulwax Remix) - Muse (YSI)

Also been listening to Funk Classics: the 80's, which would include Carl Carlton, George Clinton, and The Brothers Johnson, which I won't get into.

Last week went nicely at Ruff Club, except for when I started doing an awkward thing with my hand (see above). This week will probably surpass last week's niceness because of.. well.. look at the flyer:

I also managed to get upstate last weekend to explore what was left of an old ski resort called The Big Vanilla. Actually couldn't get into the challet up top of the mountain, which was dissappointing. Perhaps this coming weekend I'll give it another go.. IT'S AN AMAZINGLY HUGE challet/lodge, too bad there's nothing about the resort on the internet. Pics:

Off to work, then to this, maybe:

Another Radiohead post.

So it's out!!! Finally!! In Rainbows officially came out yesterday. If you don't own it, click here. If you do own it, then this post will deem itself pointless because it's just my opinion on it/myself describing it to you (which one million+ other people have conveniently already done). I don't think the album is safe and/or sparse and/or bare. I do think the album is practically unblemished/flawless, though I don't like the beginning of Reckoner. I do like Faust Arp incredibly much. Think of the album as a whole bunch of Pyramid Song type tracks compiled together. All of the string and piano parts are amazing. Easily my favorite album of 2007. And no, I'm not Radiohead bias, I just enjoy absurdly great things. I wish I still owned a car so I could get lost somewhere in upstate New York with this album. (something I did with Ok Computer, Amnesiac, and Sonic Youth's A Thousand Leaves many, many times.)

from In Rainbows:
MP3: Jigsaw Falling Into Place - Radiohead (YSI)
MP3: Faust Arp - Radiohead (YSI)
MP3: All I Need - Radiohead (YSI)

View my broken compilation of Radiohead b-sides here. It's just got a nice tracklisting.. too bad the link is down.

Off to work.

As I sit here and wait for LP7

I suppose I can tell you about the new Bangers & Cash EP from Spank Rock and Benny Blanco. Albums that have ALL explicit track titles are defnitely worth some kind of listen, even if it's only a half-hearted one. It's always sort of cool to rap along with songs ( i.e. Pu$$y, B-O-O-T-A-Y, and Bitch!) that you can feel lyrically eminent about.

MP3: B-O-O-T-A-Y - Spank Rock and Benny Blanco (YSI)
MP3: Pu$$y - Spank Rock and Benny Blanco (YSI)

Since I've lately been stuck in an old school rap sort of aura, here's some old school rap classics.

MP3: Jump Around - House of Pain (YSI)
MP3: The Message - Grandmaster Flash (YSI)
MP3: Return Of The Biz Dance - Biz Markie (YSI)
MP3: Freaks Come Out At Night - Whodini (YSI)

Biz Markie's Goin' Off is such a good album.

And then, since I've also been somewhat stuck in an old school dance/electro/funk sort of aura specifically tracks from The Egyptian Lover (slighty thanks to Andrew Weatherall's Fabric 19) here's some stuff from the 1986 Freak-A-Holic / Living On The Nile 12". The tracks are ripped from vinyl, crackling is normal. The extended version of Freak-A-Holic is incredible. But I can't give you that, because then I'd be giving you every track on the 12".

MP3: Freak-A-Holic (Radio) - The Egyptian Lover (YSI)
MP3: Livin' On The Nile (Extended Club Remix) - The Egyptian Lover (YSI)

However, you really should get to owning Fabric 19, because then you can listen to the sped up version ofFreak-A-Holic over and over again in much better quality.

Back to waiting around for In Rainbows. This is so frustrating.

monday nights/tuesday mornings

Are the worst because I can't sleep and I have class at 8 AM. Instead of sleeping, here's an e-mix tape. Like a mini one. That begins nicely with Guns 'n' Bombs, and ends awesomely with Duke. White Room.. one of those songs that had to be blogged eventually. Enjoy it.

1. Get To Know You (GUNS'N'BOMBS JAK THE TAB REMIX) - Junior Senior (YSI)
2. You Really Got Me - Oingo Boingo (YSI)
3. Nazi Girlfriend - Iggy Pop (YSI)
4. White Room - Cream (YSI)
5. Love (Duke Dumont Ode To Todd Mix) - Simian Mobile Disco (YSI)

That's all.. Oh! Coney Island pictures:

SPLIT TOUR EPS

Are probably my favorite kind.. my most prized vinyl is a split Cribs/Chiefs special edition UK tour only copy.. with The Cribs covering t'Chiefs Modern Way, Kaisers covering Another Number. Anyway.. just recently acquired Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem's split tour EP, comprised of two tracks. May I present you with the Arcade Fire's version of Poupée de Cire/Poupée de Son which was originally composed by Serge Gainsbourg, covered by Belle & Sebastian on the Fans Only DVD.. etc. LCD covers Joy Division's No Love Lost. This track is if you (unfortunately) didn't get to see them live and grab hold of a copy.

From a ripped version of the 7":
MP3: Poupée de Cire/Poupée de Son - Arcade Fire (YSI)

Something from Serge, from Bonnie & Clyde, an album I recently posted about..
MP3: Docteur Jekyll And Monsieur Hyde - Serge Gainsbourg (YSI)

Just heard Louis XIV's new digital release, The Distances From Everyone To You EP. It's not too bad, though they still sound like an eccentric mixture of T.Rex and The White Stripes. The best part of the EP is most definitely their bonus track- a cover of Queen's Flash. Not sure if they sampled Queen's actual version of the song and just added vocals.. (for the Flash.. savior of the universe.. Flash he's a miracle part). Either way it's a pretty impressive cover, supposedly for the Flash Gordon television series on SCI FI.

MP3: There's A Traitor In This Room - Louis XIV (YSI)
MP3: Flash's Theme (Bonus Track) - Louis XIV (YSI)

Queen's Flash (in M4A, sorry):
M4A: Flash - Queen (YSI)

Off to Coney Island to take some pictchas.

WHAT I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO ON 10/04

Holy Fuck's new LP is decent, not enough vocals for my taste to call the album fantastic or recommend it. Mgmt's Oracular Spectacular is spectacular; the same goes for The Ssion's Oppurtunity Bless My Soul, an album that came out a few years ago (before they dropped "the" and became simply Ssion.. also before Street Jizz) an impressive album for such a trivial band. Anita Ward is classic. Tears for Fears are classic. The Birthday Party are classic. I can't help but wonder if Nick Cave would be pissed at me for me putting his track after Tears for Fears'.. although it's really just a matter of random selection. KOL are sort of classic.. at least The Bucket is anyway. Put the Boy 8 Bit remix on there solely because of how good the Any Way You Choose To Give It remix was (Black Ghosts). Track #9 serves as the best song on this enjoyable October e-compilation. Brandy Alexander is my favorite Feist song (and Walkman song..) Was tempted to put a Styx song up here tonight (cough.. Renegade..cough) very tempted. I saved you. I've not posted any Styx on Mewzick yet what so ever. Impressive! Next post expect a write-up on a band called The Vaselines, 1980's punk-rock band. Opened for Nirvana in the 90's. Odd, not known, pretty cool, etc.

Go for it:
1. Milk Shake - Holy Fuck (YSI)
2. Pieces of What - Mgmt (YSI)
3. What Makes a Man Start a Band - SSION (YSI)
4. I'm Ready For Your Love - Anita Ward (YSI)
5. Mad World - Tears for Fears (YSI)
6. The Dim Locator - The Birthday Party (YSI)
7. The Bucket - Kings of Leon (YSI)
8. Back at the Club (Boy 8-bit Remix) - Pomomofo (YSI)
9. Rump Shaker - Wreckx N Effect (YSI)
10. Brandy Alexander - Feist (YSI)
